A Novel. A Collection of Poems. A Philosophy.

In Sophia's House, Nikki weaves together three distinct literary forms into a single journey. It begins with the story of Sophia—and of two people from different cultures who could never quite see eye to eye.Written in the style of Old English and set in France at the turn of the sixteenth century, Sophia's House follows Amelia, a young woman destined to marry the son of a baker. Instead, she abandons the life that has already been written for her in hope of something better.Throughout her journey, Amelia confides in Sophia, her quiet companion and secret confidante. Together they explore forbidden love, the courage required to rupture from the lives we inherit, and the eternal pull of our Mother Moon. The story gradually gives way to Madre de la Luna, a collection of poems reflecting on belonging, reconciliation, nature, and what it means to return home to ourselves.

Finally, Nikki shares The Sophia's House Method—a practical philosophy for learning not only another language, but another way of seeing the world through curiosity, relationship, storytelling, and meaningful human connection.

A Letter from Nikki

Nikki Andrade, author of Sophia's House

Along my journey, I met thousands of people who I wished I could help. Many believed they were learning English simply to find a better job. But as I listened to their stories, I realized something deeper was happening. They weren't only learning another language. They were slowly becoming someone new. As someone who chose to build a life far away from where I was born, I've always felt connected to these people.

I call us Global People.

We belong not to one country, one language, or one culture—but to the beautiful tension between them all. Sophia's House is the home I wish had existed for us. My dream is to build a Sophia's House in every corner of every neighborhood in this entire world. Perhaps then we'll remember how lucky we are to be so involved.

There are books that teach you grammar.

And then there are books that teach you how to live a language.
